Track Every Dollar Coming In
Income tracking is where budgeting starts. In Violet Codex, you add your income sources, log each paycheck, review year-to-date projections, and allocate your money immediately when it lands. This walkthrough covers the entire income workflow in about 5 minutes.
What you'll learn
- Add all your income sources — W-2, freelance, side hustles, dividends
- Log income as you receive it and route it to the right bank account
- Visualize your income trend and breakdown by source
- Review actual vs. projected year-to-date income
- Connect income logging to the Allocation Calculator for instant budgeting
Step 1: Add Your Income Sources
Open the Income section and click Add Income Source. Enter each source of income you receive — W-2 jobs, freelance work, side hustles, rental income, dividends, or bonuses. Each source gets tracked independently with its own frequency and projections.
Step 2: Log Your Income
When a paycheck arrives, click Log Income. A modal shows all your saved sources — W2, Side Hustle, or whatever you have added. Set the date, enter the amount for each source, and click Log Income. This builds a real, accurate history of your earnings rather than estimates.
Step 3: Review Your Income Charts
Two charts build automatically as you log income: a line chart tracking total income over time and a pie chart showing the breakdown by source. The Income Manager also shows actual year-to-date income alongside projected income based on your payment frequencies.
Step 4: Route Income to Bank Accounts
When logging income, route it directly to a specific bank account. One action updates both the income log and the account balance. Add a note to each entry for easy identification later.
Step 5: Send to the Allocation Calculator
After logging income, click Send Last to Calculator. This pre-fills the Allocation Calculator with your most recently logged total so you can immediately decide how the paycheck gets divided across bills, savings, and goals.
